An embryo is a tiny group of cells that forms when a sperm joins with an egg. It’s the early stage of a baby before it starts growing inside the mother’s womb.
IVF stands for In Vitro Fertilization. It’s a process used to help people have a baby. In IVF, doctors take an egg from the woman and sperm from the man, then combine them in a lab to create an embryo. Once the embryo forms, it is placed back into the woman’s womb, where it can grow into a baby.
ICSI stands for Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection. It’s a special type of IVF. In ICSI, doctors take a single sperm and inject it directly into an egg to help with fertilization. This is often used when the sperm have trouble reaching or fertilizing the egg on their own. Once the egg is fertilized, it becomes an embryo and can be placed in the woman's womb to grow.
• IVF (In Vitro Fertilization): Eggs and sperm are mixed together in a lab, and the sperm tries to fertilize the eggs on its own. If the sperm successfully fertilizes the egg, it becomes an embryo.
• ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection): A single sperm is directly injected into an egg using a tiny needle. This is used when there are issues with the sperm, and it helps to ensure that the egg gets fertilized.
PGT-A stands for Preimplantation Genetic Testing for Aneuploidy. It’s a test done on embryos before they are placed in the mother’s womb. The test checks if the embryo has the right number of chromosomes (the things that carry our genetic information). This helps doctors pick the healthiest embryo, which can increase the chances of a successful pregnancy and reduce the risk of problems.
IVF treatment usually takes between 2 to 4 weeks. If you’re traveling abroad for treatment, this timeframe can be shortened.
